Poseidon, the god of the sea, fell in love with Amphitrite, a beautiful Nereid (sea
nymph), daughter of Nereus and Doris. However, Amphitrite was initially reluctant to
marry him and fled to the depths of the ocean to avoid him.
Poseidon, determined to win her heart, sent one of his loyal followers, a dolphin, to
persuade her. The dolphin managed to speak to Amphitrite and convinced her of the
god’s good intentions. Eventually, Amphitrite agreed to marry Poseidon, becoming
the queen of the sea.
Poseidon and Amphitrite’s marriage was celebrated with great grandeur and was
considered sacred. From their union, they had several offspring, including Triton, a
divine being who was half-human and half-fish.
